Match Analysis

The club’s first outdoor game of the season concluded in a noble defeat against a youthfully disciplined Nantes/Saumur side.

On a soft, but well prepared wicket and square, the home side were put into bat to face a determined pace attack, though often wayward. In fact Extras played a key part in both team’s innings.

Strokes played to the grassier outfield failed to carry, so batsmen (not forgetting Danielle) needed to force the ball to gain a boundary.

For La Roche, Scott – home side captain - opened and made the highest score of the afternoon with 42, with some fine stroke play against both good and poor balls, the latter being heavily punished with fours and sixes.

Nantes/Saumur offered a depth of batting in this 12-a-side contest with Tom not out at 24 and Matt not out at 28. With bowling of five overs, one maiden, four wickets for 10 ten and eight extras, Matt was certainly the on-paper man of the match. However, La Roche benefited by a stunning catch by Holly off a high leg side hook from Fred, who at 23 looked set to make a good total. Holly then matched his effort by taking a wicket with his first over ball.

Our grateful thanks to Adrian for umpiring, Maggie and Lynne for scoring, and Clare for the catering.
